Research

Wanted posters did not usually contain images especially in the 19th century because photography and printing technology wasn’t as great. It was not until the 20th century that wanted posters with photographs were a little more common because the technology had gotten better. Even then, wanted posters with just descriptions of the criminal were more common. Wanted posters were not usually placed in public places as they were not intended for the general population. However, they would occasionally be printed on newspapers. They were commonly placed at police departments or public government bureaus.

Wanted posters usually contain a description of the criminal, where they might have been last seen, and possibly anything they are known for or other crimes committed. They will state what rewards will be given if found. Some wanted posters might contain images but most do not. It is more likely for 20th century wanted posters to contain images than 19th century. The images are black and white and look old.

They were made of old parchment paper and used fonts like slab serif. They were likely to be tattered and old looking with a yellow and brown color.
